Kate

Tomorrow my daughter comes home. Its been the longest 5 weeks of my life! I am excited to hear about her experience with Northwest youth corp. I am certain this will be something she never forgets. I am so VERY proud of her for completing the work program. I could never have done that at 17. Any age for that matter... can you imagine sleeping in tents on the ground and getting up and clearing brush or building bridges... for 5 weeks??? That is what she has been doing. Curious as to what she will do with her first big paycheck. Bet it burns all the way to the bank!

Halloween felted ACEO

Another ebay listing! 6.99. Felted head and hat with a clay body "boo".

Answer to mystery photo

UPDATE on the "what is this" photo below. Marie was the closest. This contraption IS indeed a large sling shot... for fishing! The river shown is the Columbia River Gorge. After my family stopped check out the Bonneville dam there was a pull out for people to fish. There was a man there with this crazy sling shot and a few other contraptions. He gave us a demonstration. He loads his weight and bait and shoots it out across the river! The white barrel relieves the tension (not sure how) off the fishing pole, otherwise it would snap. Amazing! It was really something to watch. Man was a big kid at heart :)

Halloween pumpkin man 45.00 ebay

I just listed this guy on ebay with a start price of 45.00. This felting is a kick! I wish I had more time to create more of these. If you have never tried this medium give it a whirl. Be warned.... needles are sharpola. What I do like about this is that its sculpting with wool. This all stemmed from that class I took a few weeks ago. When it came time to finish the doll I stumble at sewing a costume. Still wondering how on earth folks do it with no pattern... so out of that issue came this idea. Just felt the little guys! So click on the photo and it will take you to my ebay auctions or click on link on the side bar. :)

And if you didn't check out my last post, please do!

A few weeks ago while on our way to Washington we passed through Hood River and found this interesting sight... Guess what is happening here. I will post what it really is in a few days.

Halloween many moons ago...

Talk about an extra special photo... This is a print of an original photo of my great grandfather. He is the one all the way to the left, standing. The lady with her arm around the little girl is my great grandmother and her daughter, my great aunt. My mother obtained this picture when she traveled back to her fathers home in Rockford Ill a couple of months back. Is this not a gem???!!! Check out the skull.

Fav tools

Lance of Crescent Hill Designs tagged me for a "show your fav tool" posting. Out of all my favorites that I have I would have to say my hands... only because I don't loose them. Second choice are my pink wire cutters because not only do they do multiple things but its been with me for a very long time. Third fav is the wet palette that I received from a fellow artist Leah Stone Art. Leah was so sweet and bought this because she loved hers so much. I must say, my life is so much better because of this "tool" (is it?). Lastly, just a quick shot of my pathetic mess. An assortment of this tool and that tool. Later I will post 3 artist friends and ask for their "fav" tool pics :)

Updates: Poison oak nearly gone. Ya! Thanks for all the advise xoxox
We visited my daughter Kate up in Washington a few days ago. She is doing great! 3 more weeks to go... then she comes home. I will be so relieved and happy to have her back. I am counting the days.
And finally, please stop by SPOOKYTIMEJINGLES.COM for the newest release of one of a kind Halloween and Christmas pieces. The 13th of every month offers new art work. I posted one folk art Santa and two Halloween wood block paintings. Go check them out!!

I will be in and out and all about (do the hokie pokie and turn yourself...sorry) for the next week and a half. Folks arriving from out of town, a visit to Washington for a parents night with Kate (ya!) and some work related things.
I will check back a few times at night and before I forget, does anyone know of a good remedy poison oak? I am loosing the battle BAD. Doing all the over the counter stuff and its not working. Almost ready for a doctors visit (which I dispise). Let me know if you know of something. xoxo

phone call

Kate called home. Yaaaaaaaaaa! she is having fun and loves it. She has worn out her leather gloves, is cold at night and got a few blisters but other than that, all is fine :) I feel so relieved. One great thing about this program is that it lets family send care packages every week. So next week I will pack it with leather gloves, hand warmers, neosporine, more bandaides and candy.
4 weeks left to go......

Missing my girl

Ah, missing my daughter like no tomorrow! This was week one and four left to go. I posted last week that she was leaving with a group called Northwest Youth Corp. Its a 5 week program. They travel in Oregon, Washington and Idaho all while working, camping, cleaning and repairing parts of our national and state parks. This has been hard for me. I am waiting by the phone hoping that today is the day she gets to call home. sigh......

In between my sulking I finished up these two pieces. Smashing Pumpkin's is my major league Halloween piece. And a Snowman being bothered by a pesky old woodpecker. Let me know if you are interested in either of the pieces. Prices upon request. Both a bit over 100.00.

day three

Day three of class has passed. Sorry to say I did not get my Krampus guy done. I did paint him but when it came to the jacket I chose the wrong material and about a third of the way done I decided to not finish. Material was too "new" looking and all wrong. So back to the drawing board with this guy. Someday I will post the finished piece.

Now, back to what's norm for me. By the end of the day I will have 2 finished papier mache figures. One Christmas and one Halloween.

Cotton spun fun!

Its been a bit dusty in here! No posts for months... so sorry. With the holidays behind us I've been ramping up for 2024. What's ne...
